This Spécial Club is the prestige cuvée of the Maison Pierre Gimonnet. It is a blanc de blancs champagne blended from old vines in Cramant, Chouilly and Cuis.
2016 was a vintage marked by extreme weather conditions. In spring, heavy frosts and rain favoured the spread of mildew, which led to losses. The summer was very dry, which slowed down the growth of the grapes. The young berries, exposed to intense sunshine and high temperatures, are partially burnt or dried out. But all these climatic contrasts result in a wine of harmonious balance.
The Cramant Grand Cru terroir accounts for 58% of the blend, with vines planted between 1911 and 1913. Chouilly accounts for 27% of the blend and Cuis for 15%.
This cuvée benefits from over 5 years of ageing on the lees to give the wine a patina.
The 2016 Gimonnet Special Club has a silky texture, finesse and elegance worthy of the greatest Champagne cuvées.
